Each spring, Texas A&M students take part in The Big Event, a community-wide volunteer workday in the Bryan–College Station area. Now the largest one-day, student-run service project in the nation, The Big Event exemplifies the Aggie Core Value of Selfless Service. Last year, more than 17,000 students participated.

Founded in 1982, The Big Event has continued to grow and expand. In recent years, local Texas A&M Clubs have joined the effort, and The Association of Former Students is now challenging Clubs worldwide to participate. 

The Houston A&M Club has accepted the challenge and will host a special volunteer workday at the Houston Food Bank.

All Texas A&M–affiliated groups in the Houston area are invited to join us.

Big Event Details
Date: Saturday, March 21
Time: 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Please arrive by 12:45 p.m.
Location: Houston Food Bank Warehouse (535 Portwall St.)

Volunteers will assist with projects such as assembling community food boxes and Backpack Buddy bags. Everyone is welcome to participate—Aggies and non-Aggies alike, including friends, family, and neighbors.

Be sure to wear maroon or your Aggie gear so it’s easy to spot our group. Also, wear closed-toe shoes (no sling-backs), as this is a warehouse environment.

Family-Friendly Event
Children ages 6 and older are welcome.

• Ages 6–14: must be chaperoned.
• Ages 15 and older: may participate unchaperoned

This event is free and open to all. Please register below so we can plan accordingly and ensure the Houston Food Bank is well prepared.

Directions:
Take I-10 East and exit at Gellhorn Dr (Exit 774), after McCarty St. and before Loop 610 East. Make a U-turn onto the feeder road heading west. Turn right on Portwall St. (look for the green Houston Food Bank sign). Turn right into the parking lot in front of the light green building near the loading docks. Park at the far end of the lot near the main entrance.
