In 1988, two PISD educators took action...
...when they realized some students had no home to go to at the end of the school day. While it began as a 6-bed teen shelter nearly 40 years ago, City House has grown into a game changing and multifaceted 48-bed agency that includes a children’s emergency shelter, three transitional living homes, free individual & family counseling services, street outreach, and a Youth Resource Center.
Unfortunately, the need for City House’s services has grown tremendously over the decades as well: today there are about 4,000 homeless youth in North Texas alone. About 30% of those youth have been through the foster care system, 40% have been abused or neglected, and 60% have suffered family violence. Our vulnerable youth still need game changers like Nancy and Kay to turn action into impact and help them through the hurdles life has put before them.
