We invite you to Saddle Up with us for the 10th annual Friends of Vail Dinner with Friends—an evening devoted to honoring Vail’s extraordinary legacy and extending hope, opportunity, and a love of learning to children near and far.

This year is especially meaningful as we celebrate the release of Vail’s seventh book, The Laughing Horse. Vail dreamed of becoming an author, and that dream is even more alive today than when she passed away on August 31, 2016. Through the generosity of friends like you, her story continues to inspire young readers, encourage confidence, and make a lasting difference.

Over the past ten years, Friends of Vail has raised more than $1 million. Together with our donors, volunteers, sponsors, and community partners, we have reached children through local school districts and libraries; the New Hope Initiative library project in Kibera, Kenya; the children’s-area remodel at Midway Church in Pilot Point; and the softball field building at the new field in Pilot Point.

Your support also helps us serve children through CASA of Denton County, Direction 61:3, Pilot Point Community Arts / Star Bright, and the Decatur Book Bus. We provide scholarships for children of all ages, support the Friends of Vail endowment with the Pilot Point Education Foundation, and help raise funds each year for the Dr. Ty Wallis Endowment at Texas A&M University.

There is more work ahead—and more children who need hope.

The “Vail’s Tales” series is a collection of stories by child author Vail Johnson. Although she died in her sleep of an undiagnosed heart condition before she could turn 10, Vail left us with pages of profound, insightful and colorful tales about mermaids, friendship and sleepy zoo animals. Her books are a promise fulfilled by her parents. The night before Vail died, she told them she wanted to be an author when she grew up. Emmy-award-winning journalist and children’s author Ed Payne combines his storytelling skills with best-selling illustrator Britt Sekulic’s whimsical images to turn Vail’s stories into memorable tales that will make you laugh and warm your heart.
