2026 Recipient - Ted Carpenter

At just 46 years old, Dallas firefighter Ted Carpenter received devastating news: a diagnosis of the rare and aggressive cancer known as peritoneal mesothelioma. For most people, hearing those words would bring life to a standstill. But Ted has faced this battle the same way he has served his community for the past 23 years — with courage, faith, and determination.

Throughout his career with Dallas Fire-Rescue, Ted answered every alarm without hesitation, running toward danger when others ran away. He has spent his life protecting others, standing beside his brothers and sisters in the fire service through countless emergencies and difficult moments. Now, Ted faces the toughest challenge of his life, not inside a burning building, but through surgeries, treatments, hospital stays, and the uncertainty that comes with fighting cancer.

Even in the middle of this unimaginable journey, Ted continues to inspire everyone around him. His strength, positive spirit, and unwavering faith have become a source of encouragement for his family, friends, coworkers, and community. Those who know Ted understand that his life has always been about serving others with kindness, compassion, and humility.

Beyond the uniform, Ted is a devoted husband to his wife, Bree, of 26 years and a proud father to their children, Aubree and Tate. A faithful Christian, Ted has always placed God and family at the center of his life. He is also known for using his gift of music to uplift and encourage others through church worship, acapella groups, Dallas Fire events, and countless special moments shared with family and friends.

The physical, emotional, and financial toll of cancer treatment has been overwhelming, but Ted continues to fight forward with incredible grace and resilience. His story is not defined by cancer, but by faith, love, perseverance, and hope. Ted Carpenter is more than a firefighter — he is a devoted husband, loving father, faithful servant, and a true fighter in every sense of the word.

2026 Recipient - Tim Sullivan

Tim Sullivan is a devoted husband to his wife, Charmon; a proud father of four children; and a dedicated 26-year Fire Captain with the City of Dallas. For decades, Tim has faithfully served his community, answering emergency calls and protecting others with strength, courage, and compassion. He has spent his career running toward danger when others were running away, always willing to put others before himself.

But in 2021, Tim’s life changed in an instant. After returning home from a shift, Tim suddenly collapsed in full cardiac arrest. Because his wife, a nurse, was home at the time, she immediately began CPR while their young daughter bravely called 911. After multiple shocks and extensive lifesaving efforts, Tim survived what many never do.

What followed were years filled with medical procedures, setbacks, and uncertainty. Doctors eventually discovered a hereditary cardiac condition affecting multiple members of Tim’s family. Despite every effort to stabilize his condition, Tim was ultimately told he would need a heart transplant to survive. Because of his rare blood type, Tim waited five long and difficult years for a donor heart.

On February 2, 2026, Tim finally received his first transplant. Tragically, the donor heart failed almost immediately, and Tim developed a severe blood infection. Fighting for his life, he was placed on ECMO, a machine that temporarily performs the work of the heart and lungs, for 20 critical days. Then, on February 22, 2026, Tim received a second heart transplant — a miracle and a second chance made possible through the selfless gift of organ donation.

Today, Tim is finally home, but his journey is far from over. He faces additional surgeries, intense rehabilitation, and constant monitoring and takes 35 medications each day. Charmon has stepped away from work to care for him full-time. The emotional, physical, and financial challenges have been overwhelming, but Tim continues to face each day with remarkable courage, faith, gratitude, and determination.
